Welcome to my school nurse page! My name is Amber Powell and I am excited to be your child's nurse this year at T. W. Ogg. I have degrees from Brazosport College and Texas A&M University in Community Health Education and Nursing. Before becoming an Oggie, I worked for BACH ECI as a Developmental Specialist and spent 4 years as my sons' PTO Vice President and President. My husband and I have been married for almost 16 years and have two sons, Caleb and Jansen, that attend Clute Intermediate. We are huge Houston Texans fans and love our community.
My goal is to help keep your child healthy and in class ready and able to learn.
Here are some things to be aware of:
ALL medications (including over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Benadryl, or Pepto Bismol), must be provided to me by the parent or guardian in person, and permission forms must be signed. Forms are available on this page and in my office. I cannot accept medications brought in by teachers or students.
Please do not send your child to school if they have a fever greater than 100.0, are vomiting, have diarrhea, pink eye, lice, or any other contagious illness as determined by their physician. Please notify me if your child is ill.
If your child is sent home sick, they are not to return to school until they are fever, vomit, and/or diarrhea free for 24 hours without the aid of medication.
School nurses do not diagnose. We assess and make recommendations based on that assessment. Our goal is to educate all children--beginning in elementary school--to take control of their own health care management so they can grow up strong and independent.
If you have any questions, please feel free to come by my office to chat, or call 979-730-7194, or send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
